HOW ELDERS ARE ENROLLED:


Whereas applications have to be submitted through their respective Grama Niladhari to the Divisional Secretary of their respective area, enrolments will only be done on the approval of the Divisional Secretary after an interview of the candidates. We do not charge a fee or seek any monetary contribution for enrolment. In order to successfully carry out our benevolent mission we seek your generous support.


WELFARE MEASURES SO FAR CARRIED OUT BY THE SUNANDA FOUNDATION

      
         • Erection of a statue of the Late Ven. Gangodawila Soma Thera, whose mission was to make the Buddhists of this Country get  acorrect grasp of “Right View” of ownership of action, in the town of Panadura and initiating a scholarship programme in memory of the late Thera. 
       • Organising ceremonies and island-wide oratorical & essay competitions in aid of the Memorial Celebrations of Professor Wilhem Geiger who was a German national and an expert in eastern languages.
       • Donation of wheel-chairs to disabled soldiers and civilians under the patronage of former Prime Minister, Ratnasiri Wickramanayake.
       • Organising computer education programs for children of low-income families.
       • Conducting a program of awarding scholarships to children of low income families. During this year 100 children have been the beneficiaries of these scholarships. Our target is to increase this number to 500 per year within a period of three years. 
       • Organising competitions for the students of the Dhamma in our ‘Dhamma School’ on their knowledge of the Dhamma and to award prizes and certificates on an annual basis.
       • Holding seminars for those unemployed teachers of the Dhamma School in order that they may secure regular employment. 



PLANNED PROGRAMMES TO BE LAUNCHED IN THE YEAR 2010 BY THE SUNANDA FOUNDATION
 
          • To teach Sri Lanka Buddhist monks languages such as English, French, German and Chinese in order to take the message of the Dhamma to those interested in learning more, the world over. 
       • To commence a children’s welfare centre for the safety and security of those young children who are destitute and to take complete care of them up to the age of 18 years. 
       • To identify the needs of the Sinhalese, Tamils & Muslims living in the Northern and Eastern provinces of the Country, who have suffered due to the 30 years of civil war, and to take necessary action in order to uplift their living conditions.
